Opening day of the 70^th jubilee Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting: Our virtual opening ceremony featured greetings from multiple top-class guests and musical contributions from our versatilely talented young scientists and Lindau Alumni. The academic programme was then kicked off by a panel discussion and the first Lindau lectures of three 2020 Nobel Laureates: Emmanuelle Charpentier (Chemistry), Reinhard Genzel (Physics) and Harvey J. Alter (Physiology/Medicine).

Our picture of the day proves what a special and diverse group of highly talented people the Lindau community is: it shows the performance of „Ode to Joy“ by the „Lindau Virtual Symphonic Orchestra“, part of our opening ceremony. You can watch their performance on YouTube.

On our YouTube channel, you’ll also find „I Say A Little Prayer“ by the „Lindau Virtual Band“, the other musical piece created by the Lindau community, which was part of the opening ceremony as well.

Not only is this our 70^th jubilee meeting – as if that wasn’t enough reason to celebrate. We are also excited to welcome more than 70 Nobel Laureates for #LINO70: an all-time record!

Goal 02: Cooperate Globally on Global Problems

Like the Corona pandemic, which was prominently discussed on the first day of #LINO70, the vast majority of the most pressing problems of today are global in nature: They affect large parts of the world and its population, they do not stop at borders, and they cannot be solved alone. Therefore, scientists, funders and politicians must cooperate globally to increase efficiency, speed, and effectiveness.

70 Years Lindau Meetings: Historic Highlight of the Day

From 10 – 14 June 1951, 7 Nobel Laureates and 400 young scientists met in Lindau for the 1^st Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting. It was dedicated to Physiology and Medicine.

Outlook on Tomorrow’s Programme

The first full-length day of #LINO70 will start with partner events and then continue with a morning workout to brace bodies and minds of all participants for a day full of exciting academic and social programme points.
