Meeting programme
The scientific programme is designed based on the principle of dialogue and to foster the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experience between and among Nobel Laureates and young scientists.
Educate. Inspire. Connect.
The theme of the Lindau Meetings alternates between the three Nobel Prize scientific disciplines, Physics, Chemistry or Physiology/Medicine. Every five years an interdisciplinary Meeting takes place, while the Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences is held every three years. The varied formats of the scientific programme – lectures, discussions and more – are designed based on the principle of dialogue and to activate the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experience between and among Nobel Laureates and young scientists.
Who designs the programme?
The scientific chairpersons design the programme for their respective discipline and include prevailing scientific content as well as current societal topics affecting the world.
How are Nobel Laureates included in the programme?
The scientific chairpersons make suggestions for the laureates’ involvement in the programme. These could be agora talks, panel discussions or lectures.
Can Nobel Laureates choose a preferred format?
Some of the formats that can be chosen by the Nobel Laureates include science walks, laureate lunches, open exchanges, and/or insight sessions.
Is participation in the programme or individual programme points compulsory?
We greatly appreciate the participation of the Nobel Laureates in the scientific programme as naturally the young scientists from around the world are eager to listen to and discuss with the laureates, especially matters concerning that laureate’s area of science. In addition the social events in the evenings provide a more casual opportunity to interact with the young scientists and other Nobel Laureates. However, participation is not compulsory.
