Your Way to Lindau

The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings – established in 1951 – provide a globally recognised forum for exchange between Nobel Laureates and young scientists. They inspire scientific generations and build sustainable networks of young scientists around the world.

From the beginning, the meetings have been taking place in Lindau, a small island city, located at the east end of Lake Constance, whose history can be traced back to the 9th century. It is a beautiful area surrounded by the Austrian and Swiss Alps.

Come and join us to see it for yourself!

How to participate in the meetings?

As Nobel Laureates you have been invited to attend the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings by Countess Bettina Bernadotte, the President of the Council and a relative of the Swedish royal family. Countess Bettina is usually present at the Nobel Prize awards ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden and takes that opportunity to invite the newest Nobel Laureates directly to the Lindau Meetings depending on the discipline of that year’s meeting.

The discipline of the meetings rotates yearly between medicine/physiology; physics, and chemistry, and every five years there is an interdisciplinary meeting for all three fields.

In addition, every three years there is a Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences, which takes place in August.

When are invitations sent out? By when is an acceptance/rejection requested?

The invitations to the yearly meetings are sent out in September of the previous year for both the June/July and August meetings.

If possible, we would like to receive your reply in October, so that we can arrange your programme involvement and travels to Lindau.

What happens in the case of cancellations at short notice?

Cancellations at short notice would be very unfortunate as the scientific programme is designed around your participation and would ultimately have to be altered. We are, however, aware that tight schedules may require cancellations at short notice.

May partners, children, etc. accompany me?

Accompanying persons (spouses, partners, etc.) are welcome to attend the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings with you. If you are planning to bring along children or grandchildren, please inform us in advance, so that we can make accommodations accordingly.

Is there a social programme for accompanying persons?

Yes, every year the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings organise an interesting accompanying persons programme. These excursions typically include tours of historical places, some hands-on or culinary events, etc. It is possible to get more information about the events planned in Hotel Bad Schachen at the Nobel Desk and we ask you to sign up if you wish to join the excursions.
