The Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings and the Foundation Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings deeply mourn the loss of Richard R. Ernst, who was awarded with the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1991 “for his contributions to the development of the methodology of high resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy”. This imaging method has become a central tool of modern medical diagnostics.

Richard R. Ernst participated in eight Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings from 1992.

The Council and Foundation extend their deep sympathies to his whole family – and will remember his advice to young scientists from 2009: “Let your scientific activities become your most beloved passions, and success will not fail to arrive!”
