On Thursday, 7 October 2021, the Swedish Academy has decided to award the Nobel Prize in Literature 2021 to the novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah, born in Zanzibar and active in England, “for his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents”.
