The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings mourn the death of Harald zur Hausen who passed away last Sunday at the age of 87. After having been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine in 2008 “for his discovery of human papilloma viruses causing cervical cancer”, Professor zur Hausen was committed to the Lindau cause from the very first meeting covering medicine topics, was a member of the Founder’s Assembly and he participated ten times altogether.

Only two years ago, he was no stranger to online interviews and hybrid panel discussions. For the upcoming 72nd Lindau Meeting we had hoped to hear his Life Lecture which he had immediately agreed to deliver.

Council and Foundation Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings will honour his memory and extend their deep sympathies in these days to his wife and his family.
