74th Lindau Meeting: Science Diplomacy on the Closing Day Agenda

Conclusion of the 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting: Science Diplomacy for Bridging Cultural Divides, Promoting Peace, and Enhancing Cooperation

A cherished tradition since the very first Lindau Meeting 74 years ago and as popular as ever: the boat trip with all meeting participants from Lindau to Mainau Island, hosted by the State of Baden-Württemberg, takes place right now. The Flower Island is where the 74th Lindau Meeting will end today with the final Panel Discussion – available via livestream from 11:15 CEST.

Highlights of the Meeting Programme

This session, together with many other pieces from the Scientific Programme, constitute more than 20 hours of online content accessible at the Lindau Mediatheque. Other key themes with top-class discussants and engaged debates include a stellar panel with some of the most influential voices in chemistry globally, be it on Circular Chemistry as a Pathway to Sustainability or in assembling three Nobel Laureates as well as key players from Deep Mind, Nvidia, and GSK AI on Artificial Intelligence in Chemistry.

The challenges of our time have shaped the programme of the whole Meeting. On today’s closing podium, Peter Agre (Nobel Laureate in Chemistry 2003), Frances H. Arnold (Chemistry, 2018), Martin Chalfie (Chemistry, 2008), Yuko Harayama (NICT, Japan), and Young Scientist Fuhar Dixit, University of California, Berkeley, will explore one of the upcoming topics on the borders of pure science, addressing the vital role that scientific collaboration plays in fostering international relations.

Young Scientists’ Call for Breaking Barriers in Science Globally

Inspired by the speeches at the Opening Ceremony, this year’s Young Scientists discussed topics of particular relevance to them across the globe in Wednesday’s Science Breakfast dedicated to “Overcoming Barriers to Success for Early-Career Scientists – an International Approach”.

At today’s Closing Ceremony, the themes they voted for will be presented as the #LINO25 initiative:

  • Resilient Global Scientific Communities
  • Broad Career Aspiration and Opportunity for Security
  • Equity and Wellness in Academic Institutions
  • Plus: a Strategy Group devising ways of promoting the above goals

As many Young Scientists as possible have been invited to collaborate through the Lindau Alumni Network.
