Peter Brzezinski

Peter Brzezinski is professor of biochemistry at Stockholm University (SU). He holds a PhD in Physics from Chalmers University of Technology (1989). Peter worked as postdoctor and later visiting researcher at the Physics Department at UCSD in La Jolla until 1992. He held an Assistant Professor position at Göteborg University for 6 years, before moving to SU in 1998. Peter Brzezinski has served as Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at SU and Dean of the Chemistry section. His research is focused on understanding molecular mechanisms of biological energy conversion in terms of physical mechanisms and principles.

Peter Brzezinski has served as Chairman of the Swedish Biophysical Society and Chair of the Göran Gustafsson Prize Committee for Chemistry at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. He is Editor of FEBS Lett. and Executive Editor of Biochimica et Biophysica Acta – Bioenergetics. Peter is elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and since 2015 member of its Nobel Committee for Chemistry. In 2021 he was appointed Secretary of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry and deputy member of the Board of Directors of the Nobel Foundation.
