Dr. Thomas Gruber

Since 2025 Thomas Gruber has been Executive Director and Member of the Board and Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings. Previously, he worked as Director of Lindau’s Executive Secretariat and, for seven years before that, as a Fellow and Assistant to the Director at I Tatti – The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies in Florence. Gruber holds a D.Phil. in History from the University of Oxford, where he was a Rhodes scholar at Merton College and a Junior Research Fellow at Wolfson College.
Before returning to academia, he pursued a career as a consultant to UNESCO, a policy advisor to a member of the German Federal Parliament, and a strategy consultant with the Boston Consulting Group and McKinsey & Co., leading projects on digital government and the transformation of federal agencies in Germany. His publications focus on medieval transcultural studies, the early history of unbelief, and the lives and work of German emigrés in the twentieth century.
