Expectations: Jun Lou
Jun Lou from China is excited about her first trip to Europe – of course, as her first destination will be #LindauEcon14.
Most importantly, I am looking forward to the Nobel Laureates’ lectures. It is fantastic to see so many Nobel Laureates at the same time. I am interested in so many topics that I won’t miss any single one of the lectures, such as the ones from Maskin, Stiglitz, Hansen,Diamond, Merton etc. And I am hoping that we young researchers can talk with them directly.
Besides, I expect to discuss possible economic careers with other participants, since having a career development plan is very important for young economists. Learning from Nobel Laureates and having discussions with other economists my age should be very helpful in this regard.
I will read the lecture abstracts from Lindau’s official website, in order to get a grasp on the main ideas of the different topics before the meeting. Meanwhile, the website has a lot of further information to explore, such as videos from previous lectures in the Mediatheque.
Besides, during my study period, I have already learned about lots of classic economic models, such as Nash’s equilibrium or Diamond’s overlapping generations model. It is amazing for me to be able to attend face-to-face presentations by scholars who created those classic economic models.
Talking with young economists from other countries will be interesting; especially when they have different studying backgrounds and different cultures. I expect this opportunity will not only help me in learning more about economics in general but also inspire my thoughts for future research work. Besides, it’s the first time I am visiting Europe and I feel very excited to get to know Germany.
