Daily Recap – Wednesday, 2 July 2025

Typical reaction from the audience listening to a Nobel Laureate who has already been to a dozen Lindau Meetings.

Today, the Lindau Meeting programme started with the Young Scientists presenting once again their projects. The day continued with more Next Gen Science presentations and as exchange is so essential for good science, there were once again Open Exchanges with the Laureates. Later, a group of enthusiastic high school students had the unique opportunity to ask Nobel Laureate Stefan W. Hell their most burning questions. But science wasn’t the only topic on the table: Laureate Hell also got personal, sharing reflections on his journey as a physicist and the determination that drove his groundbreaking research. The programme was concluded with the traditional Heidelberg Lecture. Finally at dinner, there was again the chance to connect with other Young Scientists from all over the world.

Looking out to tomorrow, it seems that we are not done yet and hungry for talking more science!

Quote of the Day

“These days, hearing all your discussions – in here and also outside in the foyer that is like a beehive – that gives me a lot of hope for the future.”

Anna Sjöström Douagi, The Nobel Group Interest, Sweden

Picture of the Day

Traditionally during the Lindau Meeting week, a Nobel Laureate visits one of the local high schools – today, Stefan W. Hell inspired prospective Young Scientists from Southern Germany and nearby Austria.

Blog Post of the Day

“Is there anybody in this room who doesn’t have a lithium-ion battery on them?”, Sir M. Stanley Whittingham began his Lecture at #LINO25.

Our Blog is about a look back at the origins and evolution of the lithium-ion battery, as told by two of its Nobel-awarded pioneers.

Fact of the Day

On Veggie Wednesday we saved around 1650 kg of CO2 emissions by choosing to go meat-free.

Today’s Highlight Session

Morten Meldal and Martin Chalfie, what a combination! Their Agora Talk was all about “The Joy of Unexpected Discovery“. In a very entertaining manner, both Laureates talked about cascades of subsequent discoveries.
