Daily Recap – Tuesday, 26 August 2025

Mario Draghi, former Prime Minister of the Italian Republic and former president of the European Central Bank, contributed to the Opening Day of the 8th Lindau Nobel Meeting in Economic Sciences

After exciting weeks of anticipation for the 8th Lindau Nobel Meeting in Economic Sciences, the time has finally come – it’s Opening Day!

The Opening Ceremony at the Inselhalle, beautifully located on Lindau Island, couldn’t have started the Meeting on a better note. Warm greetings and visits from high-level guests were followed by an inspiring panel discussion on “Research and Innovation in a Tripolar World”. Mario Draghi, Steven Chu, Thomas Schafbauer, and Jean Tirole explored the key challenges and questions shaping research and innovation today.

The following reception hosted by the Free State of Bavaria offered the first opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, and get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere. With appetizers enjoyed and first conversations started, the academic programme continued with insightful Lectures from Guido W. Imbens and Paul M. Romer.

Today offered a glimpse of the exciting days ahead with more Lectures, Panel Discussions, Open Exchanges, Science Walks, and the Next Gen Science Sessions, where the Young Scientists will present their research on the big stage.

Quote of the Day

“What you have to do is try to promote disruptive research. Planting where the soil is fertile is very important.

Jean Tirole, Laureate in Economic Sciences 2014
