On the second day of #LINO75, the scientific programme was in full swing with insightful Laureate Lectures and interactive Nobel Hours. Momentum built as our Young Scientists took the stage to present their work during the Next Gen Science sessions. Finally, the day wrapped up in unforgettable style with the International Evening in cooperation with the Nobel Foundation, Sweden – a vibrant celebration filled with music and dancing.

The Lindau Meetings transformed when early-career researchers joined the dialogue for the first time. What began as a gathering of Laureates evolved into a exchange across generations, creating a tradition of inspiration, mentorship, and scientific collaboration.

Over the past forty years, the exploration of whether macroscopic electrical variables such as currents and voltages can exhibit quantum behavior has evolved into the field of quantum superconducting circuits. This lecture revisits the pioneering experiments at Berkeley that first revealed macroscopic quantum tunneling and discrete energy level quantization in superconducting devices, setting the stage for today’s concept of engineered “artificial atoms.” These systems now allow unprecedented control over quantum states by tailoring circuit parameters, enabling precise tuning of energy levels and transition strengths.

Mariam Elbaz is a Media Master’s student from Egypt at DW Akademie in Bonn, with a focus on science communication in the Arab world.
