Continuing his lecture during the coffee break: John M. Jumper with Young Scientists

The full scientific programme kicked off today with partner breakfasts – or, for those drawn to both science and sports, a refreshing Morning Yoga Session. After the Nobel Laureates took the stage with Lectures and engaging Agora Talks, it was time for the Young Scientists to step into the spotlight and present their own research. After all, the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting is not only about fun and excitement – it’s also about meaningful work!

Open Exchange Sessions and Science Walks offered chances to connect with the Laureates in a more personal setting. As the day wound down, everyone came together to share a delicious meal (and perhaps a dessert or two?) before starting off to the dance floor.

Tomorrow promises another full agenda – more Open Exchanges, Agora Talks, and Lectures await us, as well as the traditional Grill & Chill where Lindau citizens will also have the opportunity to feel the Lindau Spirit.

Quote of the Day

“For me at the time, I was really curious: could you develop an organic catalysis that works for many reactions? The problem is, I had zero idea how to do it.”

Sir David W.C. MacMillan

Picture of the Day

Today, the Young Scientists eagerly took up the opportunity to address their questions to the Nobel Laureates in various programme formats.

Blog Post of the Day

Our blog post of the day evolves around two Lindau Premiere Laureates and their “Antibodies and Quantum Dots: The Evolution From Lab to Industry.” It explores how cutting-edge research on quantum dots and antibodies is driving innovation from the laboratory to real-world applications, highlighting the journey from scientific discovery to industrial impact.

Fact of the day

34,118 km or 21,201 miles – that’s the combined distance travelled by those six Nobel Laureates Moungi G. Bawendi, John M. Jumper, Sir David W.C. MacMillan, Thomas C. Südhof, Sir M. Stanley Whittingham, and Akira Yoshino, who are attending a Lindau Meeting on site for the first time.

Four of the six Lindau premieres contributed to the programme with inspiring Lectures today.

Today’s Highlight Session

Nobel Laureate Moungi G. Bawendi delivered his first Lecture at the Inselhalle on “Quantum Dots: From Curiosity to Technological Impact.” Together with Louis Brus and Aleksey Yekimov, he was awarded the 2023 Chemistry Nobel Prize for “the discovery and synthesis of quantum dots.”

His Lindau debut is now available below and in the Lindau Mediatheque, where additional recordings can be found as well.
