Promising Sciathon Results – Finalists for Presentations During #LINOSD Have Been Selected

The finalists of the Online Sciathon 2020 have been selected. Today the Jury  has announced the results of the 48-hour scientific competition. The three best project groups from the three subject areas (“Lindau Guidelines”, “Communicating Climate Change”, and “Capitalism after Corona”) have been selected and will present their results live on stage during the Online Science Days 2020.

Countess Bettina Bernadotte, President of the Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, concludes: “With the Sciathon, we were not only able to virtually bring together scientists from around the world despite the pandemic, but the submitted projects can contribute essentially to the improvement of the urgent matters facing society”.

The creativity of the idea, the feasibility as well as the quality and relevance of the results were all taken into consideration by the jury. The Sciathon results will be presented on 29 and 30 June as well as 1 July 2020 from 11:30 – 12:30 hrs. CEST on the online platform of the Science Days. At that time, it will be announced live, which project finished first, second, and third and will receive prize money in the amount of 1,500 €, 1,000 €, or 500 € respectively.

Innovative and Promising Results

The Sciathon Results range from initiatives to make the local effects of climate change tangible; to platforms and apps, which facilitate the interdisciplinary exchange between scientists and the public, or which can expose fake news; to concepts of how to mitigate the economic consequences of the corona pandemic.

However, now that the Sciathon is over, those ideas should not just disappear. Given the many innovative and promising concepts, the participants will spread their ideas around the world and promote their realisation. The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings will support them, for example, by providing them access to the Lindau Alumni network.

One week before the start of the Online Science Days 2020, 48 project groups, including Lindau Alumni as well as young scientists and young economists invited to the upcoming Meeting 2021 took part in the Online Sciathon 2020. During the 48 hours, they worked on current problems from the three topic areas mentioned before. In the competition, 87 different nationalities were represented as well as alumni from 24 different Lindau Meetings of the last 40 years (including back to 1982).
